Project Type: Show Garden

RHS Gold Medal
RHS Best Resilient Planting Pocket Award

A coastal themed garden resilient to the wind, salt and drought, designed for the local community of Jaywick Sands. The purpose of the garden is to raise awareness of the importance of climate resilience for coastal communities. This resilient planting aims to capture beauty and vulnerability of the coastal community, Jaywick Sands, on the North Essex coast.

The plant palette has been specifically selected for its drought, salt and wind tolerance. The extreme weather conditions are projected to increase, underlining the importance of creating resilient planting for the future. Found shoreline objects further celebrate this connection to the resilience of place and community.

“I feel so proud of them as first time designers to create this incredible space. It proves that even in a tiny garden, you can really celebrate resilience.
